Pilot Crushtec International has supplied another of its versatile Sandvik UH312 wheeled crushing and screening units to Tanzania. The sale was in response to a customer’s need for a mobile piece of equipment that would deliver multi-product crushing and screening solutions.

Africa sales manager Wayne Warren explains how Sandvik’s northern hemisphere technology provides an excellent fit for operating conditions on a site located 150 kilometres from Dar es Salaam.
“Wheel-mounted equipment, has long been popular in east Africa. The machines are easy to transport and enjoy a long-established reputation for quality and productivity.”
The UH312 is being used by new customer, Maseyu Quarries, to process granite for construction and cement products. Ease of mobility is essential in this application, because the end user is based at the coast and granite of a suitable quality is only to be found a considerable distance inland.
The equipment comprises a secondary crushing unit consisting of a Sandvik CS86 four-deck vibrating screen and a Sandvik CH440 high capacity crusher, both of which have merged seamlessly with the quarry’s existing equipment.
“Primary crushing is carried out by the company’s existing wheeled jaw crusher, and the material is first transported to a surge pile from where it is then routed to the Sandvik UH312’s screen. Oversize material is fed directly into the cone crusher. From the cone crusher, the crushed material goes back to the screen via a surge hopper,” says Warren.
Currently major demand is mainly for -30mm +20mm and -20mm+10mm products, however smaller sizes can also be accommodated.”
All the materials handling elements of the plant are facilitated by Pilot Crushtec International products, including a pan feeder, a Pilot Modular / TRIO CRP36 magnet, five Pilot Modular MC800 20 metre conveyors and a single Pilot Modular MC1200 25 metre conveyor.
“Increasing demand from our customers meant we had to lift our output up to around 250 tonnes per hour (TPH),” says Maseyu Quarries owner Nestroy Mtega.
“We decided that we had to look at sourcing new equipment and received our quotation from Pilot Crushtec International within hours from the time we requested it, in contrast to alternative suppliers who took several weeks to provide us with the information we needed.”
Mtega in the meantime took the opportunity to view a similar wheeled trailer-mounted Sandvik screen and cone crusher recently supplied to a major civils contractor in Dar es Salaam by the Jet Park-based company.
The operator’s favourable comments, combined with Mtega’s previous experience of using hydro cone technology, convinced him of the long term benefits of opting for quality to provide long term, sustainable production. Nonetheless the Sandvik unit turned out to be very competitively priced.
“The Sandvik UH312 has taken us to a new level of aggregate production, which will enable us to keep growing and service our target market, primarily made up of large construction companies based in Dar es Salaam,” concludes Mtega.
